Suitcases have been essential travel equipment since the very early ages of modern civilisation, with luggage then being known as trunks. Luggage in its purest sense is an object which transports equipment, food and other supplies. Early suitcases were constructed using animal skin, dried, strengthened and then shaped in to crude box shapes for storage. Materials A modern case will be designed to resist abrasion and scratching, using tough hard-wearing materials such as high denier nylon and ABS plastic.
